VEF beats us again27-03-2017

BC Kalev/Cramo hard season in VTB didn’t get any better after losing 74:82 to VEF at home. The Latvian side showed more confidence in the final moments of a so called “Baltic Derby” and emerged victorious after not letting Kalev score a single point from the field in the final four minutes.

Janis Blums was the man today! He scored 31 points off the bench making 8 of 15 from the deep. He was the guy who led his team in the first half scoring 21 points on 7 of 9 behind the arc which gave VEF a 39:35 lead in the first half. Kalev managed to stay in the game until the 35th minute, baskets by Mejeris and Gaddy sealed the win for the visiting side.

Team comparison was quite even but 7/14 from the free-throw line, and 30/11 from the deep against VEF’s 29/15 were the deciding factors. Bench mob was great for VEF scoring almost as much as Kalev’s starters – 50 to 54 points. Tollefsen finished with 16 points, Keedus added 15, Liutych and Simmons 12 and Sokk 10 points.

“Kalev plays very smart basketball every year. True their roster changes a lot during the season but despite that they are always a tough opponent. Today’s game proved that, luckily we were great in shooting from long range and managed to control the end,” Janis Gailitis added after the game.

Kalev is still at the 11th spot with 5 wins and 3 games to go in VTB – 3rd april Moscow CSKA, 16th april Kubab-Lokomotiv and 23rd april at home vs Zenit.
