BC Kalev/Cramo’s visit to Saratov unfortunately did not end with a win, but there was a glimmer of hope – we can play against bigger and stronger teams. Kalev was in the game until the last minutes when Avtodor had a 15:4 scoring run led by Jevgeni Kolesnikov. Saratov got the win 68:60 (37:30).

Gregor Arbet scored 16 points for Kalev, Keedus added 8, Freimanis 7, Veideman, Killingsworth and Raley-Ross 6 points. Josh Boone was a beast in the boards but only managed to secure 13 rebounds.  Again Kalev struggled with turnovers,  they had 20 against the opponents 11. Also Kalev had only 4 free throws.

Kolesnikov, who was influential in the fourth quarter by scoring 11 points and 16 points total was the scoring leader for Saratov. Malcolm Amstead was held to only 7 points by Arbet and co.

Coach Varrak after the game: ” We were in it. We fought hard and made opponents work for it. I like that in comparison to last season, we have a bigger rotation. After turning the ball over 20 today, we’ve made 39 turnovers in 2 games, in VTB league that is too much. The offensive balance was there, but we missed the contribution of our bigs today. We handle’d their leaders well, but unfortunately guys who haven’t been much of a threat this season were the ones who took over.”
