BC Kalev/Cramo finished their last game before Christmas-break when they hosted top European club Moscow Himki, the game was hard-fought but unfortunately not too tight and ended with a 72:90 (38:46) loss. So far Kalev has lost to Himki on average with 19,9 points so todays result was a little bit better than average.
Rain Veideman continued his good performance from Kuressaare with 19 points today, Latvian big-man Rolands Freimanis scored 17 points and added 7 boards and 4 assists. Playing with a minor injury Josh Boone had another double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Sokk added 10 and first time VTB starter Janar Soo 8 points. Gregor Arbet did not play today because of the injury he had in cup final. Brandis Raley-Ross did also not make an appearance in todays game and after the game it was revealed that he would not return to the club after christmas-break.
Ex-NBA player and Russian national team player Aleksey Sved had 19 and Dmitri Sokolov 13 points for Himki.
Kalev/Cramo led most of the first quarter but the final minutes of the quarter ended roughly when Kalev managed to turn the ball over 4 times, so first quarter to Himki 18:24. Himki tried to pull away in the second quarter but thanks to Sokk, Freimanis and Veideman’s baskets Kalev clawed back to 2 points but the first half ended with Tyrece Rice’s buzzer and Himki leading 46:38.
Second half Himki rolled their own way and finished the game 90:72. After the game, Rimas Kurtinaitis said that the key to winning was a good rotation, he could use 11 players and keep the pace high but Kalev used only 8 guys. Coach Varrak said that they are close to an agreement with a new post player and now need to start looking for a guard also.
