Great game by Mirkovic not enough15-03-2017

BC Kalev/Cramo’s suffering continues, after losing Veideman, nearly escaping BBL quarter they hosted Avtodor in VTB and in a totally winnable game they had to admit defeat 86:94 (41:43). For Avtodor, it was their 6th win of the season which put them just outside the play-offs in 9th place. BC Kalev sits at the 12th spot with 4 wins.

Branko Mirkovic had his best game for the hosts but it was not enough to lead his team to victory, he finished with a great double-double 28 points and 10 assists. Cedric Simmons had 15 and Mickell Gladness 14 points. Kalev missed Vitaly Liutych due to injury. For the visiting side Nick Minnerath had 24 and Jevgeni Kolesnikov 22 points.

Avtodor started great and made 9 of their 11 first shots and after only five minutes led 22:11 but the hosts kept on fighting despite Liutych’s injury and Simmons having knee troubles. “Athletes need to play through pain sometimes,” was the message by coach Varrak. Going into the half-time break the game was even again and it seemed like just a matter of time when Kalev will turn the game around but Avtodor managed to go on a 7:0 run in the last minutes of the third quarter and took a 67:60 lead.  Despite coming lose multiple times Kalev just didn’t have enough luck nor manpower to turn the game around.

Most team stats were quite even, but small things like a few more turnovers, more points from the line and behind the arc decided the game.
