Defending Estonian champion Kalev/Cramo re-joins EuroCup after five year break. In the opening game Kalev meets Turkish Banvit – silver medalist from last season’s Turkish league. Also in the group with Kalev and Banvit are: Maccabi Haifa from Israel, Riga VEF from Latvia and MZT Skopje Aerodrom from Macedonia. All three are champs of their countries. Group leader will most likely be Unics Kazan from Russia. Regular season will be played in home-away system, best 3 of the group will advance to the next round.

A Kalev/Cramo trip to Turkey is one of the longest ones in the whole season. After connecting flight in Riga, team arrived in Istanbul, from where to Bandirma they needed to take the ferry followed by 3 hour bus ride.  According to Alar Varrak Banvit is a very good team with quality players, they have 9 import players and their coaching duo comes from Greece. Recently Banvit participated in Euroleague qualification tournament, where they beat Nymbruk, but lost to Oostende by two points. Varrak considers Banvit to be one of the winner candidates for the EuroCup tournament. Team has extremely good guards. So far the best scorer has been Dominican Sammy Meija, but all the players are strong and quick. Kalev/Cramo went to Turkey without Rain Veideman, who is still recovering from ankle injury, but is expected to join again in the VTB game against Nizhny Novgorod. Last weekend Banvit played first game in Turkish league, where they beat Aliaga 76:64.
