Alexela Basketball League season started today in Tartu when the reigning champion TU/Rock hosted BC Kalev/Cramo in front of around 1500 spectators. After an unexpected loss in the finals last season Kalev players looked fierce and courageous, the defense held together and offense was flowing while taking a victory from their biggest rival in Estonia 81:73 (43:38). Josh Boone who only missed 1 shot from the field finished with 16 points and 9 boards. Marco Killingsworth who came off the bench secured a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Raley-Ross (11 points), Sokk (11 points and 6 assists) and Freimanis (10 points) also scored double digit points. Rain Veideman played only 10 minutes in his first game for Kalev this season. Gregor Arbet missed the game due to a minor injury.

Summer addition Evaldas Zabas had a great game for TU/Rock, he was the leading scorer with 26 points, estonian veteran Janar Talts added 14 points and 5 boards. The other addition in the summer Brian Harper, started great but slowed down and finished with 9 points and 8 boards.

Coach Varrak after the game: “The game was much better than in Czech Republic. Especially the bigs, they were great tonight. Its remarkable that we won today without the contribution of Arbet and Veideman, it was a clear team victory.”

Fun fact, Kalev/Cramo almost missed the game, after a stop in Adavere the bus wouldn’t start so the players went out and helped to jump-start the bus!
